Hadith Class #01

April 27, 2008

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

It is a lecture, on hadith and in English, held every Sunday after Magrib prayers at Masjid Assyafaah. Ive been attending it for the past month, provided that I am not working on the day itself.
Well, just wanna share what I’ve learnt for today’s class.

*Hadith not narrated in full.

  • First, the Prophet is upset if he sees groups of people in the masjid or even groups or sects in Islam itself. Like when you see, different groups in our local masjids, like one group, reciting the Qur’an together, another the Pak Hajis group. Well, as Muslims, we are brothers to one another. Togetherness is essential.
  • The following hadith, states that, two person should not talk without involving the third. Doing this might cause the third party to be left out and hence disappointed.
  • Its best if we smile to others. Smile is sadaqah. An offering. And its best if we sadaqah and we say our salams to our brothers at the same time. As the Ustaz equates, salam = love = iman = paradise. InsyaAllah.
  • Lastly, when a man talks in private to another, it is a trust, entrusted to the person he is talking to. Hence, the person should not tell anyone else about what the man has said. Unless, if the person tells anyone else, it will be beneficial to that person or someone else.

And Allah knows best. Amin.

InsyaAllah will continue soon.

The Accursed

April 26, 2008

It’s frustrating when you always lose to them, no matter what you do.

“I seek refuge in Allah, from the accursed shaytan”
I must try to make this, a routine recital.
Because…

“And if a slander from the devil wound thee, then seek refuge in Allah. Lo! He is Hearer, Knower.”
Al-A’raf 7:200

National Service
My adhered principles.

Just for the record, I don’t deal with fire fighting and rescue only, but office work too. I am in charge of my Rota’s (shift) administrative matters, for both NSFs and Regulars. I started as a minor. Just an assistant to my then Admin OIC, to then being a 2OIC in charge of the Regulars affairs, to an OIC (overall in charge). Anything administrative falls under me. And I have a Regular and an NSF section commander working under me. Being the Admin OIC gives me the authority to approve or disapprove ones leave, to recommend one for promotion etc etc etc. Partial-disciplinary matters also falls under me, charge forms etc etc. Also, as an operations enforcer, I also issue fines to companies who breach fire safety measures. Last but not least, I am also one of two who are in charge of public education for the Rota.

My heavy work load and responsibilities caused me to have sleepless nights, sleeping at 3, 4am, reveille at 5am for Fajr prayers and then onto drills and continuing work after duty till about 12pm. The latest was till 8pm on my first day off. That was during the all tensed up audit period.

OK here goes.

1 duty = 24 hours

  1. When I wake up on every duty day, I stay positive and not think of the problems that I will encounter at work. Neither will I think of the problems that I have encountered the duties before. “Today will be better than the day before. Tomorrow will definitely be better than today.”
  2. When I start everything I do, I say “In the Name of Allah, The Most Glorious, The Most Merciful”
  3. Time is always of the essence. When I am at work, I work. I only take short 5 minutes rests when I need to, besides lunch time, dinner and my 3 – 4 hrs sleep.
  4. I don’t forget my fard (obligatory prayers) while I work. It refreshes your body and soul.
  5. Whatever I do, I always think in the best interests of my station.
  6. I try to be systematic and creative so that the area I am in charge of will run efficiently.
  7. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
  8. I don’t like to be pushed. Hence, I try to be a step ahead of my superiors. So they won’t be nagging at me, demanding for a document and blah blah.
  9. When I am tasked, I always perform to the best of my ability, within my means.
  10. I must be disciplined with myself and not let certain factors to affect me and my job. Allowing it to affect me will cause me to deviate from achieving my goal.
  11. I must be sincere and truthful in my work. I can’t afford to be biased.

And Allah knows best.

The Star

“That man can have nothing but what he strives for;
That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight:
Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete;
That to thy Lord is the final Goal;” (53:39-42)
