Hadith Class #03

May 18, 2008

In the name of Allah, the Most-Gracious, the Most-Merciful.

Hi, I’m back!

Phrase of the day.
“Amal Maaruf Nahi Mungkar”
The principle of enjoining good and prohibiting sins.

  • Asr’ Prayers. The Prophet (pbuh) did his Asr’ prayers in the early hours of Asr’ as narrated by Aisyah (ra). When the sun is still shining bright and the shade is not dark.
  • He who leaves his Asr’ prayers is at a huge loss, akin to losing his family and wealth.
  • One who performs his Isya’ and Fajr prayers in a jamaah in the mosque, it is as if he has worshiped Allah throughout the night. Hence the Prophet said that if one were to see the rewards of the Isya’ and the Fajr’ prayers, they would rush towards the mosque, even if they have crawl.
  • There is no dalil or law which states that anyone could simply qadak their prayers, unless in times of emergency. Those who miss their fards intentionally has committed a great sin. No qadak. Only repentance to Allah and keep on repenting.
  • To enter a house or a room (while visiting), knock thrice, identify yourself and give your salam. Take note that evil and shaitan do not give salams when they want to enter a house.
  • In your solat, to rectify or to supplement mistakes in it, after you give your salams at the end of the last tahiyyat, istigfar thrice. Solat sunnah ba’diah, will also help to further supplement.
  • The Prophet never fast on Nisfu Sya’aban, 15th Sya’aban and also 1st Muharram. Hence it is not sunnah to do so.

And Allah knows best.
Till we meet again…insyaAllah hu aaminin.

Lessons from an Ant.

May 17, 2008

One morning I wasted nearly an hour watching a tiny ant carry a huge feather cross my back terrace. Several times it was confronted by obstacles in its path and after a momentary pause it would make the necessary detour.

At one point the ant had to negotiate a crack in the concrete about 10mm wide. After brief contemplation the ant laid the feather over the crack, walked across it and picked up the feather on the other side then continued on its way.

I was fascinated by the ingenuity of this ant, one of Almighty’s smallest creatures. It served to reinforce the miracle of creation. Here was a minute insect, lacking in size yet equipped with a brain to reason, explore, discover and overcome. But this ant, like the two-legged co-residents of this planet, also shares human failings.

After some time the ant finally reached its destination – a flower bed at the end of the terrace and a small hole that was the entrance to its underground home. And it was here that the ant finally met its match. How could that large feather possibly fit down a small hole?

Of course it couldn’t. So the ant, after all this trouble and exercising great ingenuity, overcoming problems all along the way, just abandoned the feather and went home.

The ant had not thought the problem through before it began its epic journey and in the end the feather was nothing more than a burden.

Isn’t OUR LIFE like that?

We worry about money or the lack of it, we worry about work, about where we live, about all sorts of things. These are all ‘burdens’, the things we pick up along life’s path and lug them around the obstacles and over the crevasses that life will bring, – only to find that at the destination they are useless and we can’t take them with US……

Hadith Class #02

May 12, 2008

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

“The best of people are those who benefit mankind.”

  • He who sits in a company with so much idling, worldly talk, in a gathering, when he wants to leave, he needs to recite the tasbih kafaroh so that Allah will forgive his sins.
“SubhanakaAllah humma wa bihamdika asyhadualla ila ha illa anta asstagfirka wa-atu bu ilaik.”
  • Someone should not be alone with a woman unless she is with her mahram.
  • For babies, aqiqah, circumcision, shaving, is sunnah to be done after 7 days after the baby is born.
  • On Judgement Day, Allah will call you by your name and your father’s name. For those born out of wed-lock, He will call you by your name only. This sahih hadith contradicts the fabricated hadith which says that on Judgement Day, Allah will call someone by his mother’s name.

InsyaAllah, will continue soon.

And Allah knows best.

Ahhh Cute.

Regarding the recitation of Surah Kahf, both narrations of reciting it from
memory and also from the Quraan itself exist in the hadith.

a) ibn Mardawaih reports from ibn Umar Marfooan: He who recites Surah Kahf
on the day of Jumuah, nur (light) will be spread out for him from below his
feet till the sky, it will shine for him till the Day of Judgement and his
sins between the two Jumuahs will be forgiven for him.

In Tafseere Roohul Ma’ani vol.8 pg. 288, under the tafseer of Surah Kahf,
there are three Ahaadith which support the recitation of Surh Kahf from the
Quraan and there also appear a few narrations on reciting from memory.

3) Surah Kahf can be recited on the night of Jumuah (Thursday night) or on
the Day of Jumuah. Narrations regarding its recitaiton at both times are
found in the treasure of Ahaadith.

a) ibn Mardawaih reports from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal Marfooan: The home in
which Surah Kahf is recited, shaitaan does not enter that house on that
specific night. (Roohul Ma’ani, vol. 8, pg. 289).

Many Ulama are of the opinion that it is sunnat to recite Surah Kahf on the
Day of Jumuah and on the same token, many are of the view that is sunnat to
recite it on the Night of Jumuah and they also state that it will be
commendable to read it at both times. (Roohul Ma’ani, vol.8 pg. 289).

83: He Ya’qub said, “Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allah will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! Only He, is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

84: And he turned away from them and said, “Alas, my grief fro Yussuf!” And he lost his sight because of the sorrow he was suppressing.

85: They said, by Allah! you will never cease remembering Yussuf until you become weak with old age or until you be of the dead.

86: He said, “I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you know not.”

87: “O my sons! Go and enquire about Yussuf and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except for the people who disbelieve. “

When you face sadness, grief, complain only to Allah. Only He, the All-Mighty can take away your sorrows, non other. Be patient as it has it’s rewards. And Allah is the All-Knower. He knows what we know not. And as the last verse states, do not give up hope of Allah’s mercy.

Allah knows best.

21,915 BLACK BALLOONS OVER JERUSALEM

May 8, 2008

To celebrate 60 years of independence, Israel is planning a large-scale birthday bash with events taking place in many different countries around the world. In Jerusalem, a 3-day conference, under the title “Facing Tomorrow” is planned from May 13 – 15, to which many world leaders, such as U.S. President Bush, and French President Sarkozy, and celebrities such as Barbara Streisand and Steven Spielberg have been invited and plan to attend.

It is wrong to celebrate and we need to do something BIG to make the world, and those gathered to celebrate Israel, see and hear us. We* have this idea and we need your help to make it happen! On May 15, we will launch 21,915 (365 days x 60 years) black balloons over the skies of Jerusalem. We aim to turn the skies over Israel’s celebrations black to let people know that there is another side of the story, a side of heartache, suffering and dispossession. At the same time, each balloon will carry a letter from a Palestinian child expressing his/her hope for the future, to let the world know that we believe in and dream of justice.

Please help us make this happen by buying a balloon! $1.00 will help us cover the cost of 3 balloons. Please buy 3, 6, or 9 balloons (or more!) and be part of our action. Donation information below.

Other things that you can do:

  • On May 15, we are asking everyone, wherever he or she is, to wear back. PLEASE WEAR BLACK!
  • WRITE LETTERS, or help collect letters from Palestinian children. You can email us the letters and we will print them out and attach to the balloons that we will launch;
  • If you are in Palestine, volunteer to help us inflate and LAUNCH the balloons on May 15;
  • Wherever you are, consider doing an action in SOLIDARITY with our action (in addition to whatever else you may be planning). For example, you can launch your own balloons, fly black kites, march with black banners, etc.

To donate to the cost of the balloons, you can:
